Chapter Ten

The days ticked by so fast. Faelene has been so absorbed in the shop and wedding planning that I barely had a full conversation with her when I was home from work. So, when she declared an early bedtime, I was all over it.

Because these kinds of nights were my favorite.

Faelene and I were both in bed by 9 pm. We weren’t overly fond of watching television to pass the time. Occasionally it was a movie but most of the time it was quiet music and reading. Well, before our main favorite thing to do went down once the lights were turned out.

Finding my true love with the same kind of passion for books as I had, was actual magic. Although Faelene was probably more of a hardcore bibliophile than I was. Which was difficult to top. Her nightstand was a vertical bookshelf with books piled higher than she was tall. She often liked to joke with customers that her “to be read” list would actually kill her one day. Because, honestly, it could if it fell over on her.

The quiet tonight was especially needed because of my chaotic work schedule due to the winter season which still had a firm grasp on New England despite it being mid-April. Traffic accidents and heating complications were always the bane of a firefighter’s existence during the cold months. Faelene was still prepping for the big book signing at her shop that was just days away. But tonight, she declared that she was satisfied with 98% of her plans and called it an early night.

I gave her peace while she had a relaxing bubble bath, although I jumped in the shower after she filled the tub. There’d been a lot of steamy glances and suggestive looks with unspoken promises for later. The sexual push and pull between Faelene and me had me feeling like an overly hormonal teenager coming into his large dose of testosterone all over again.

My eyes shifted over to Faelene on her side of the bed as I felt the subtle shift of her body. We were both nose-deep into our current reads. It had been a bit since we’d been able to read in bed together. Most nights of late ended with her collapsing in bed and falling right to sleep. She needed more long nights of sleep. Between planning the wedding and the big book signing, on top of all the stuff she needed to do for the shop, she’d been too restless of late.

I kept my face down towards my book to not arouse any suspicion that I was watching her. Her tongue darted out, glazing her bottom lip with saliva before coaxing it between her teeth. The bed moved ever so slightly as I watched her absentmindedly rub her thighs together.

My body took immediate notice of her subtle movements. Her body reacted similarly when I got my hands on her. Only with a much more noticeable beckoning of each and every delicious curve.

Faelene was most certainly reading something spicy in her cartoon cover romantic comedy.
